I’m such a sucker for MMORPGs. Granted, I’m quite an anti-social gamer, so end up playing most of them for about 2 days before getting bored and chucking it. Including World of Warcraft. Its more a commentary on what I look for in gaming though, rather than the games themselves.

The only real exceptions have been City of Heroes (which hooked me for ages - cracking game), Guild Wars (which I loved, but the time it took me to get around, only to die and have to start again got me down) and Star Wars Galaxies (prior to the last re-write anyway - not tried it since. I really enjoyed it though, but the lag in Mos Eisley really killed it for me).

But, as I say, I’m a sucker for them none-the-less, so yesterday I picked up Lord of the Rings Online. I’ve only played the tutorials, but the graphics are pretty, and its nice bumping into characters for the books. The next few days will probably tell whether I stick with it, or end up back playing Oblivion. But the reviews have been very good (no small thing in today’s MMO-staturated market), and I read its designed to be more solo-friendly than most MMOs, which was partly what really sucked me into City of Heroes.

Have to say was actually quite tempted by trailers for EVE online, as far as I can tell, think a MMO Homeworld with a persistant universe. Don’t know much else but it looks to be incredibly sandbox, you can fight enemy’s, trade or even indulge in piracy, ther ehave even been bank frauds (Player created, not events) all in universe.

That does sound pretty cool. I’ll need to read up on that one.

Lord of the Rings Online is shaping up to be a good un though. I was playing some of the early stuff last night and it was a good laugh.

Can’t get hooked on another though, I barely have time for CoH

Very true. I’m currently getting sucked into Lord of the Rings Online. Although I’ll probably check it out once I burn out on that.

Looked at the website last night, there is a 14 day free trial. Perhaps I may dip in on the fair weekend

I’m quite tempted as well I must admit. The piracy stuff could backfire badly though, and make it quite tough for new players.
