Dropships attack Peregrine Isle

I set up a test server copy of City of Heroes on my PC last night to check out Issue 10.

The actual invasion scenario itself is great. Above you can see my character tailing 3 dropships as they attack Peregrine Isle, carpet-bombing the streets below. Sadly my hyper-phase power had konked out, so I was eating floor about 10 seconds later.

The changes to the Rikti crash site look interesting, although they’re difficult to gauge on test server, as it involves a cooperative struggle with both villains and heroes trying to destroy Rikti pylons and then attack the mothership. With the test server actually pretty quiet, there wasn’t much point hanging around (those Rikti pylons eat blasters for breakfast). The Thin Red Line is good though, with the Vanguard base defenses attacking any wandering Rikti that get in range.

My only real complaint so far, is that its easy to be wandering around, oblivious to where the action is. With such a fuss being made over this big event, it can be frustrating logging on, and flying around for half an hour wondering what all the fuss is about. Some kind of pop up message when you log in, telling you which zones are currently under attack would be nice.

Had some thoughts about this, think it woudl be good if you could get popups relevant to Rikiti activity at your characters level, so someone between levels 30-40 may get a message saying “Rikiti attacking peregrine isle” while at a different time someone at level 6 may have a message telling them to fend off a Rikiti attack on Atlas Park. This would mean everyone is involved.

Another nice idea which I doubt will happen would be a closing event for teh end of Invasion, something like the high level heroes/villains get called in under a truce between Statesman and lord Recluse to make one final attack on the rikiti. Lower level heroes would be recruited by other memebers of teh Freedom Phalanx/Vanguard/Freedom Corps to defend city zones from the Rikiti’s final assault. have this run for the closing week and I think it could be a great event.

A big closing event would definitely be a good idea. A final push by the Rikti, or something like that.

The only problem I can see with the level-specific thing would be that it removes the ability for people to see if other zones are under attack, and then re-log to an appropriate alt to help out.

Of course, the problem with making it a free-for-all is that high level characters can fly into the low-level zones and mop up, ruining it for the low-level characters. Although from experience in CoH, I’d imagine this would be the exception rather than the rule.

Regardless of how it was implemented, some kind of message telling you where the action is when you log in would be appreciated though.

SO perhaps more of a message saying “Rikiti attacking Atlas Park” woudl imply that you’re not going to see much above level 5, while attacking somewhere like faultline would imply the appropriate level for that.

That’s what I’d like. Just a popup similar to the MotD screen, listing the different zones currently under attack, and an OK button.

As it is, when a zone comes under attack, there’s an admin message displayed in the chat interface. My only thing is that’s not much use if you’ve just logged in and missed the message.
