The New KITTComingSoon.net has posted the first picture of the new KITT. The high red scanner bar will take a bit of getting used to, but so far it looks good I think. Sticking with the “cool-looking black car” concept was definitely the way to go.

I must admit, I’ve been following the various stories on this new Knight Rider series and so far it seems to be shaping up well. Previous attempts to relaunch the franchise haven’t done so well (although I liked Knight Rider 2000), but this one seems to be trying to stay true to the original ideas in the show more than some of the other relaunches have, so fingers crossed its good (surely it can’t be as bad as the new Flash Gordon turned out to be?).

I’m really surprised by how quickly this series seems to be coming together though.

Yup. The story is basically that it’ll be a sequel to the original series, with Michael Knight’s son (Mike) teaming up with a new KITT and taking up his Dad’s “One man can make a difference” role (well, one man and a supercar).

An early script review on Aint It Cool was apparently very promising, and although separate to the other remake projects over the years, they’re apparently still keen to sign Hasslehoff for at least a cameo.

With the writer’s strike in full swing, it seems to be being fast-tracked so the networks have something new to show in the new year, so production has been moving along quite rapidly. The new Mike Knight has been cast, but there’s no word on who’s voicing KITT (a pretty critical piece of casting, given that he was the star of the original show - I do wonder if the reason there’s so little news would be down to trying to get William Daniels to reprise the role).

Hmm, like the plot. The site says the red lite is photoshopped, the Shelby Mustang isn’t a bad call, after all the original trans am was a muscle car. I’d hae possibly opted for something sleeker. Sadly its clearly wanting some product placement and the current breed of big bran American sports cars are in the old chunky style. Shame they’re not using older cars as the 4rth generation camero would have been ideal

if the new corvette does look like this its what I’d have used, but I think 2012 is a bit of a long time to wait, shame

That Camaro would’ve been really nice.

But despite the obvious product placement with the giant logo on the grill (the original probably benefitted from Trans Am hating them), it looks a better update than any of the other remakes (the Knight 4000 was nice, but needed to be black to make the light stand out more).

I can’t wait to see what they do with the interior. I hope they just use a slightly updated version of the 3-bar vocal light for KITT.
