Partners In CrimeWell, that was good.

Yup, Doctor Who’s fourth season the the ground running last night with the traditional first episode runaround. While I probably preferred last year’s season opener (to be honest, I think Smith and Jones has probably been the strongest opener to date), this one did the job nicely. It brought back in Donna, re-established her family (Bernard Cribbins was great - can’t wait to see more of him), gave us possibly the cutest monsters ever in the history of Who, and provided a tantalising tease of what’s to come with Rose’s shock reappearance.

Next week’s Pompeii episode looks excellent. And going by the blurb for the rest of the season, it looks like there’s something big to look forward to every episode. Brilliant :)

I really enjoyed it. Humour really worked (The Doctor and Donna’s silent conversation had me in stitches) and there were so many fun moments.

As an aside, am I the only one who was more Excited by the Mention of the SHadow Proclamation than of Rose’s return. We’ve heard mention of them before, and they seem like some sort of space or time police. Either way some nice hints at what is to come.

The silent conversation scene was probably the highlight of the episode. It was brilliantly played, and when they stopped and saw Miss Foster staring at them I was in hysterics.

The Shadow Proclamation stuff was very interesting. Previously I’d thought it was just a piece of legislation the Doctor had quoted to the Nestene. Now we know that its actually some sort of law enforcement.

While Doctor Who does rely on its monsters, I think it’d be interesting to get a proper look at how the universe works, post-Time Lords. We know the Judoon are running around as space cops (albeit slightly dodgy ones) and there’s the Shadow Proclamation as well. I’m really hoping they build on this in the coming episodes.

I did think it was a treaty of some sort as well. The idea of almost rival space cops is an interesting one. You have the Judoon as almosta mercinary force, cops for hire so to speak, the shadow proclamation are presumably shadowy, and who else, Sontarons Perhaps?

Hmmm. I wonder if the Shadow Proclamation have legs?

My biggest fear is that tehy turn out to be one of the following

1: The Shadows from Babylon 5
    2: The Shadows, the band

Well, they do like their celeb cameos in the second last episode. Sir Cliff as head of the Shadow Proclamation works for me.

  7. Pie Man 70 says:

    Noooo, not Cliff
