The Big Bang TheoryOne of the shows I’ve been enjoying a lot is The Big Bang Theory.

A new sitcom from America, it follows Leonard and Sheldon and their two friends Koothrappali and Wolowitz. Thing are complicated when an attractive girl, Penny, moves in next door, whom Leonard immediately falls for.

There’s a tendancy with these kinds of comedies to go for a really bad stereotype of geek, which tends to put me off. However this show has captured the characters really well. Each of the four main geeks is distinct, and I must admit that I do see characteristics from myself cropping up in the show (thankfully not from Sheldon). While it took a few episodes to settle in, its really hit its stride now, with episodes featuring Sheldon catching a cold, or Leonard winning the Time Machine (from the film of the same name) being incredibly funny.

I was going to post about how it has really come on, and how it has changed as Penny has almost been sidelined and at most acts as a trigger for geeky antics which is working far better and definitely helping the stringing out of teh unrequited love story (WHy do all US sitcoms need unrequited love)

Instead I’ll just say, Oh no, Hungry Morlocks.

“We need to get rid of the Time Machine!”

That and the one where Sheldon gets sick have probably been the best two episodes so far.

I noticed the same thing though regarding Penny. As its hit its stride, its been a lot more confident on the geeky humour, rather than relying on the old “unrequited love” angle.
