Chuck #1As many reading the blog will know, I’m a big fan of NBC’s Chuck. So I was suitably intrigued when I noticed a listing for Chuck #1 in Diamond Comcs’ DC section of its new releases this week.

Actually being released under the Wildstorm label, this was a really good first issue. The creative team have captured the look and voices of the show well I thought. The bit with Casey explaining he speaks “Gun-in-mouth” was great.

I’m looking forward to the rest of this mini and seeing where it goes.  The idea of Fulcrum having their own version of the Intersect is an interesting one.

Green Lantern Corps #25Another good issue of Green Lantern Corps from Peter Tomasi and Patrick Gleason. This month we get the origin of the Black Mercy plants as the GLC fight against Mother Mercy on the plant’s homeworld.

I really enjoyed the counterpoint of the more experienced Honour Guard Lanterns (Kyle and Guy) getting the other Lanterns to back down, when they realised that Mother Mercy was surrendering, while the more war-like Lanterns would’ve been fine to keep on going and kill her (would that have caused the Alpha Lanterns to get involved? Presumably.). Its also another sign that after the Sinestro Corps War, quite a few of the Lanterns have become more bloodthirsty, and willing to kill, even when there’s another option. Surely bad news for the Corps down the line (especially when the dead rise next year).

It also nicely played into the character-switch between Arisia and Yat. That once Kyle and Guy had calmed things down, it was Arisia who was ready to kill Mother Mercy. Granted I doubt she would’ve actually done it, and Yat being the one to talk her down was a nice scene, and is showing some growth in the Yat character, who was previously the head-strong one.

I’m looking forward to the fight with Mongul next month. Pity they didn’t make this a double-length finale though. It being the 25th issue.
