BumblebeeWell I made it out to see the new Transformers movie last night. Top film.

Being a Michael Bay film, I did expect the action to be top-notch, and I wasn’t disappointed. The CGI effects for the Transformers themselves were excellent done and Shia LaBeouf did a great job as Sam Witwickey making the character likable and displaying some great comic timing.

The one thing that really surprised me was the amount of humour in the film. One scene in particular was completely goofy, and there were plenty of laughs to be had from Frenzy running around the place manically. But the humour worked really well. I was in stitches as the Autobots were trying to hide to avoid Sam’s parents.

Definitely one to go and see. Easily one of the best films of the summer so far. After a slightly disappointing start to the summer, this, Die Hard 4.0 and Harry Potter 5 have really improved things.

This gave me a good laugh today:

The movie just can’t come soon enough :)

To coincide with the release of the new Transformers movie, Black Lab have released a cover of Lion’s theme to the 1986 movie. They’ve done a cracking job, even referencing some of the Vince DiCola score.

Here’s the music video they compiled to go with the track:

While I’ve been a fan of the Transforming robots for many, many years, what’s really surprising me is the number of non-fans who’re getting really excited for the film. It does look so far that it could be a big hit of the summer.

Granted, I’m still not a huge fan of the aesthetic for the Transformers themselves, but I do appreciate that it was probably a necessary change in order to make the Transformers look good on the big screen, and not silly.

Meanwhile, in TV-land, there’s a 4 minute preview for the new Bionic Woman series up on NBC’s site:

I’ve been interested in this since I heard about it. I was always more of a fan of the Six Million Dollar Man, than The Bionic Woman, but since the rights to Steve are tied up in legal hell, pushing ahead with a Bionic Woman remake was a great idea. From the preview it definitely looks like it could be good, although we’ll know for sure once the pilot comes out.

I just hope it gets a fair shot at success. A lot of shows spend their first season finding their feet, and US TV has become increasingly impatient with shows that aren’t mind-blowing from the offset. Still, hopefully the success of Heroes will maybe convince the networks to give this a fair chance.
